Planning & Zoning | Development Permits

The Planning Division is committed to urban planning and design to provide an attractive, safe, and enriching environment that assures a high quality of life. The Planning Division comprises two sections, Advanced Planning and Current Planning.

Current Planning

The main focus of this section is reviewing development plans for conformance with land use policies and standards, and is responsible for processing various discretionary applications including General Plan and Zoning Code Amendments, Zone Variances, Planned Unit Development Permits, Plat Maps and Lot Splits, Special Use Permits, Site Plan Reviews, Temporary Use of Land Permits, Home Occupation Permits, Sign Permits and responding to public inquiries on zoning and land use. In addition, this section provides staff support to the Planning Commission, BOA, and the City Council.

Advanced Planning

The primary focus of advanced planning is to develop plans, policies, and programs to guide development in the City, and is responsible for maintaining an up-to-date Comprehensive Plan; Zoning and Subdivision code; conducting special studies related to land use, and collaborating with regional, state, and federal agencies.
