141st Street Widening Project
Traffic Update:
The two new northern lanes (west bound) are now open for two-way traffic while the remaining southern lane (east bound) is being completed.
The widening project on 141st Street between Elwood Ave. and Peoria Ave. consists of the complete demolition and removal of the existing street surfacing in this mile section. The existing two-lane roadway will be replaced with a three lane design having a center left turn lane both directions. The project is set to start Monday, April 12th and will span approximately nine months with completion anticipated mid January, 2011. Traffic will be shifted to allow access one-way East bound from April 12th to the end of July. At that time two-way traffic will be re-established on the two new lanes constructed on the North Side of the street.
Approximately mid December, two-way traffic will be allowed only on the South side of the street through completion of the project. During the course of this project, ingress and egress to and from 141st street into the adjacent neighborhoods will be maintained as much as possible to minimize disruption of resident, emergency services, and school bus traffic. However, there will be times that certain street intersections along this portion of 141st Street will be closed on a temporary basis to facilitate the work.
